New member scams? - nebs - 04-12-2014 What is up with the low life's who are signing up in our forum just to create threads to that have nothing to do with pack goats to advertise their crappy products or phishing scams with virus infested links. Have people no shame? RE: New member scams? - Dave-Trinity-Farms - 04-12-2014 Those are automated spam bots. Forum sites are found and the program is ran to auto join all the different forums and spam them with any number of things. It should be noted: NEVER CLICK ON A LINK that is available on these odd posts. They range anywhere from spyware to key loggers or even viruses. The same goes for email. Just because you see you friends name come up on your inbox list, doesnt mean its from them. Most of the time you can hoover your mouse over their name and it will show what email address was used. RE: New member scams? - Nanno - 04-12-2014 Yeah, sorry about that... there's not much can be done about it. We already have one of those things that makes you type the random letters or numbers that show up in the box, but it still doesn't catch all of them. The only way to get rid of them completely is to use a totally custom forum software (like Phil has for Galcon), but that's not very realistic for this site and custom software has other issues. But yeah, never click on anything that came from a spam bot! RE: New member scams? - nebs - 04-13-2014 No problem Nanno, we are grateful you provided this forum. It is just sad low lifes use such sleazy tactics. As a cop I have always been amazed at the effort and dedication some people will put into malicious endeavours, but be too lazy for a honest day's work. |
