New here can you tell me what a Prospect is? Is that an untrained Pack Goat?

Well there's not much to training a goat. Those guys seemed like they already have some experience following humans on a mountain trail, so I'd say they're trained. By prospect I think we generally mean a goat thats too young to carry real weight. Once you can load them down with stuff, they've graduated to "experienced pack goat".

To be called a "prospect" it would indicate a goat that seems friendly, willing to follow, curious, some degree of being outgoing and likely willing to work with it's human. There are also physical traits that are looked for which is not always size but the build. A good breeder will be able to see a packer prospect very early in a newborn kid. Usually much earlier than those of us that use packgoats but do not breed them. My advise when getting a packgoat is choose your breeder wisely and save yourself investing a lot of energy into goat that is not going to work.

I call mine prospects because until they leave my property, I am always evaluating them. Nancy has it right though. A good breeder will be able to see the potential in a baby pretty much the moment it hits the ground. Having done this for 20 years, I have a good idea on how good a kid is even before its dry. I still like to spend about a week watching them though before I list them. And even after listing them I will keep evaluating them to ensure that a buyer gets the best possible prospect I can give.
