Yesterday I’d let the goats out to run around and browse while I was scrubbing and filling their water tanks. Nate, our UPS driver, arrived to pick up the weekly shipment of frozen quail. Of course the goats had to investigate what was going on!
Nate opened the 30’ x 40’ walk-in freezer’s door to load up all of the boxes. By the time he got 3 of them into his truck he had 3 goats walking around in the freezer checking things out and “helping” him. I could hear him talking to them.
I headed toward the freezer praying they wouldn’t jump up into the UPS truck and “help” him re-organize his truck! Bourbon, Banjo and Jethro were in the freezer checking out Nate and everything he was doing. I called “Come goats!” which they normally come running to. Not this time! Nate herded them out of the freezer by waving his arms and saying “scoot!” They reluctantly ran out of the freezer door.
When Nate was finished loading the boxes and had closed the back of his truck I told him he made a great goat herder. He laughed and said it was a first for him!
Fuzzy stayed by my side during all of this and Joules was standing next to the fence talking to Simba (they had a date later in the day). It was the 3 boys who created havoc. When I think about it – it’s always the 3 boys who are in the thick of things! I’m beginning to see a pattern……………..
Boys will be boys no matter what species!
