Barclay Lake

Today we wandered out to see where the snow levels are at. There is so much snow! Compared to last year it feels like we'll never get out into the high country. Of course, it is only March going into April... Our adventure was deep in the forest of the pacific northwest. I see all your guys beautiful dry, sunny desert posts, so I thought I would share what's going on here in the cascades of Washington.

The snow was deep in places. For the goats, their legs were like toothpicks sinking into the snow. They seemed to enjoy themselves, but I'm sure just as me they are sore in places they've never been sore before.

Anyways, here are some highlights.

I've done that kind of hiking before. For me the secret was footwear. Either have some awesome high boots, all tucked under and tied tight, or just wear old jogging shoes and be happy to have cold, wet feet. There is no in between. Normal hiking boots let the snow in and keep it in since they're "waterproof".

Also at this time of year, keep a sharp eye out for squach tracks. Remember, you may be the first human to go down that path since fall, so who knows what you'll find!

Exactly. I just had to surrender to wet feet, but the experience was worth it.

Beautiful!  I have very fond memories of a few trips up Mt Baring but it was a lot warmer when I was there.  Looks amazing in the snow especially with cute goats in the foreground!  Thanks for sharing!
