Kudos to the does!

Kudos to the does! They go through so much to produce kids for our variety of uses! Yesterday Pinkie, one of my son's Boer does, had triplets - 2 doelings and a buckling. She was wider than she was tall. The buckling is colored like a paint horse! Red with 4 stockings, a white patch on his body and a white tip on his tail. So far today another doe has had a buckling and is still in labor. All of his does are due within the next few days.

Ouch! Get these kids out of me!

We like to start mid to late February. Still cold enough to keep the bacteria down but warm enough not to freeze. Usually Smile

I wasn't going to breed my does this year. When I decided to sell my buck I thought I better get another breeding from him since he produced 5 gorgeous doelings with them last spring. Normally I'd prefer February or March.

Here are a couple of photos I snapped of "Buckshot" while he was out exploring today. They're a little fuzzy but you can see his color. He is either walking around checking everything out or sound asleep. Like all kids there's no in between. Big Grin

I think it's rather odd that boers are one of the cutest breeds and we just eat them. Why couldn't they be less cuddly looking since they just go for meat?
