What is your favorite hoof trimmer and where do you buy them?

Theses are by far the best. And as few goaties as you have, these should last you a lifetime as long as you dont leave em outside or use em to open hay bales

Those are the ones I have. I bought them over 11 years ago when we first got Cuzco and they're still going strong. I also discovered the joys of using a hoof rasp last summer, which is nice to use on dry hooves and works especially well for taking down the outside edges of hooves that splay. I'd like to get a smaller one though. My rasp is for horses and it's unwieldy for goats.

We buy a pair every 4 or 5 years instead of sharpening. So id say we get roughly 1500 goats or 6000 hooves trimmed before we notice enough difference in the sharpness to order a new set.
Oh and on hoeggers they have a trimming package that has these, a rasp a pick and some stuff for hoof rot. Costs like 31.00

We have the same orange handled ones and usually sharpen them twice a year. I love the Big Brother rasp and use it a lot for getting a nice flat surface. I have the small plane and big one. I recently purchased the larger trimmers from Hoegger for my big "Meat Goat." Basil's hoofs are so large that I have a hard time getting the orange handled blades to fit and cut proper angles on him. I'm in love with these new trimmers for him. http://hoeggerfarmyard.com/xcart/Big-Bro...mmers.html

I ordered the kit from Hoegger, and I don't think the shears are the same. Mine have green handles and went dull pretty quickly, and the most goats I've ever had at one time was six.

If you got the green ones then they sent you the wrong kit or clippers. Id contact them and get the correct set. Ill see if I cant get the name on the good ones.

Here is a link to the kit. Keep in mind. If you are not in a wet area then the hoof rot stuff is not needed. The pick, we have never needed one but if you have larger animals, it may come in handy. But it does have the rasp. But as you can see, they are clearly orange handled. And the trimmers (SKU: 27N) are clearly the better ones vs the other cheaper orange handed ones. With trimmers you get what you pay for. Also if you are just after the rasp and the trimmers, just buying those to items will save you about 10 bucks over the price of the kit.
