I have been playing with my Christmas dehydrator and have found some interesting recipes for on the trail munchies and meals. Is there any trail favorites anyone would like to share?

You know, one thing I like is making broccoli-cheese soup from powder but adding less water than normal. I bring some pizza style bread sticks and dip them in the thick soup. The bread is bulky but not heavy. Powdered soup in a bag is light. Its great after a long day of hiking.

I can make griddle cakes out of corn muffin mix, biscuit mix, or brownie mix. Find the mixes that only need water and mix them up in a zip lock bag or the package they came in. A griddle cake is like a taller pancake. You use a light weight frying pan and a light weight metal plate for a lid. I use a none stick MSR fry pan and a titanium plate. Put a big dollop of the mix in the fry pan, put a lid on it with low heat. Flip it after a few minutes and fry the other side. It is just like making a pan cake but with a lid over low heat. Most of the mixes with rise up and inch and a half.

Our favorite is fajitas. We dehydrate fulled cooked venison (can use any ground, cooked meat) and bell peppers. Place dehydrated meat, peppers and fajita seasoning in a quart freezer ziploc. Add boiling water to bag in camp and close to rehydrate for 15 minutes. We place tortillas to warm on top of the bag. Add shredded cheese and devour!

Great ideas! I used to do the muffin, biscuit and other mixes when we were still horse packing. Would also use the hamburger helper type things. I haven't tried to dehydrate ground meat yet but love the idea of fajitas. Hunting camp this past year we did burritos somewhat the same way with precooked taco meat. I absolutely love broccoli cheese soup and will for sure try it with bread sticks. I wonder if a person could make bread sticks with biscuit mix and wrap them on a stick and toast/cook over a fire?

I thought the idea of goats was to be able to eat good food? Steak, canned beverages, potatoes.
All I want for Christmas is a new hip.

Joe, you've got a point there. Guess I just need more goats! Oh darn.

These are my role models for camping with goats. They are drinking canned beer, eating steaks, etc. Two parts to the video. I'll link the first one and I bet you can find the other.
