What did you do today?
Hello Nanno
I like your "Adventure" story.
SO FAR my boy's do not seem to be very "Vocal"
Yes, a few "Bleats" when they want attention. But NOTHING like the old Nubian Wether I had that you could hear a 1/4 mile away through the woods when he got upset.
He sounded like you were beating a child the way he screamed.
I have to get back up on some of my horses here too. My two Arab RET. Police horses have been around goats in the pasture at home and a little bit on the trail. Olly (the Nubian Wether) would only trail with us so far then get lazy and go back to the barn and Scream.  Big Grin  MY 2 year old Frisian filly is not sure of them and has a rebellious streak.
Good to see you had a good ride, and all of you probably slept like rocks.
==================================
Moving on:

I have Snow Goats here to at least for a few days.
Even a headless goat.

Enjoy

Hello All
Things are thawing out here but that means lots of muck and mire. Goat Boy's are a little happier they can "Scounge" a bit more for natural browse. But I added Alfa Pellets and BP to their ration as well as the pellet goat feed they have been getting. They must like the combination their shed bucket is cleaned out in 15-12 minutes after I dump feed in. Everything mixed together makes about one large coffee can per feeding. Plus the Treat Feedings for coming into camp when I call. The snow and ice here are melting off and they both are drinking out of melt water puddles.
I take that as a good thing.
Yes, I have Spoiled Goats but with manners.Smile
One BAD thing they did.
They were on walk about and the neighbor went out my driveway "Rough Gravel" to see if she could get her car out. She was "Escorted" by my dog, Pete,Sam and her 3 dogs.
Talk about a Circus Parade when I saw them coming back, goats in the lead, it was a moment to behold.

Hello All
After a hard day of running around "Catching Up on stuff the Snow/Ice Storm Delayed".
I had a chance to "Introduce" Pete and Sam to a campfire. I do not mean a Goat Roast. They are to good for that.
Just lite up a little propane fired yellow flame "Artificial" campfire outside on the deck and let them wander around camp as the sun went down. They deserved some "Free" time as with me gone most of day, they had to stay in their shed.
Upon Release, they took off like rockets, bullied the neighbors dogs , raided the small pine trees, yet kept within 25 yards of me. I settled in on the deck with a drink and after a bit of busting around in the brush they came back to the deck. It was funny how they looked at the "Camp Fire" circled it Hair up, flipping heads, very much on ALERT.
Walked "Very Cautiously" up to withing 6 inches, took a good sniff and "Bounced" away.
In a little while they came circling back in to me and decided to post themselves on either side of my chair and watch the fire.
A good end of the day , a good fire, good goats, and a drink at sundown. How Much better dose it get?

Hello CH
Good Pictures
Years ago, when I was clearing brush on my farm I would burn the brush piles.
25-30 foot around ,stacked and compressed with my loader tractor. Say 7-8 foot tall.
Touch them off let them burn down, push the unburned ends in with the tractor burn again.
Always ended up with a just a big pile of ash.
Turn the horses back in and they would go right to the ash pile paw it around and lay down and roll in the ash.
I hope to get some "Real" campfire pictures of Pete and Sam this spring when we Introduce the City Folk at Paris Mountain State Park to Pack Goats at the Primitive Camp area on the shoreline of North Lake as well as some of the popular short walking trails in other areas of the Park.

Goats and campfires are an almost unbeatable combination. Some goats (like Cuzco) will even stand right over the fire and deeply inhale the smoke. When goats inhale smoke it usually makes them pee.

I have to be careful with Cuzco though... he loves fire so much that he sometimes walks into the hot coals and burns his feet. This happened last time we had a campfire and also the last time I burned brush. He's a wannabe fire walker, but he doesn't seem to be able to come out the other side unsinged!

Hello Nanno
Thanks for the Heads up on Goat Fire Extinguisher capability Smile
Here is some thing from my "Primitive" knowledge, American Indians on the great plains often "Hardened " horses hooves with hot coals to increase their durability on War raids.
Maybe Cuzco thinks he is a War goat? Smile
You will know for sure when he wants you to file them down to a cutting edge.
After all he has the Spiked Helmet Already.
I have worked as a Welder for many years and have Singed my hair many times.
It smells bad, bad.
I can just Imagine what a singed goat smells like. Sad Don't want to find out.
Me and Cuzco would get along I am a fire bug too.

Hello Nanno and All
RE: Goats and campfires.
To Nanno and Cuzco
it is funny we had the "Campfire" conversation today.
I was enjoying the sunset with the campfire going boy's were hanging out looking for attention.
Sam, Black and White boy backed into the fire pit and singed his tail hairs. Just about jumped into my lap.
NOT a lap goat, about 140 pounds.
But he settled for just getting as close as possible, and "Glared" at the fire.
BTY: Goat Hair stinks when it gets "Singed" Nothing hurt but Sam's Pride.
After a bit of comfort he went back to his "Perch" on the Deck Equipment box and laid down to watch the fire.
BTY: No Automatic Goat Fire Extinguisher deployed till I put them back in their shed after dark.????
Sam watered the gravel right in front of the fire. Then Blew his nose at it. Smile Like "Take This"

Hello All
Goat Story for tonight.
We had Rain most of the day here or Heavy Mist. 66 degrees all day and still is now. 12:30 AM  EST
One of those days were about the time you start something outside it rains.
I let the goat boy's out and even they were back and forth from shed to brush eating.
By Noon I gave up getting any outside projects done, put a good Audio Book on and took a 3 hour nap.
Still fighting the tail end of a cold. Rest and fluids or chicken soup treatments. Smile Home made soup BTY. I cook.
Left goat boy's run loose. they stayed close to camp, came to door to check on me, Yes, main door was and still is open with just the screen door keeping them out. Had a good 3 hour nap.
Went out to feed horses, Have decided it is better to lock the Goat boy's in their shed while I feed horses. Hogs that they are as well as they are tempted to go visit the neighbors Sannen (sp) Milking goats. the white ones.
When I feed horses. Or steal feed from the horses pans.
Got that done came back to camp, turned boy's loose and put a steak and taters on the grill. Lite the Campfire turned the radio on to one of the Conservative/Prepper Stations I like, fixed a drink, and watched the clouds clear out.
The Goat boy's came in settled down on the deck and were happy to be around "Their" person.
Am I doing something Wrong??
After a while the effects of a beer made me get up and go find a tree, Sam got up came out to the area of the tree with me yet stayed 6-7 feet away and watered the brush too. I guess it was a male thing to do???
Neither of them have done any jobs on the deck when we have been just Chillin out. always if they feel the "Urge" they have gone off a ways to take care of their "Duty" Am I just Lucky or what?
Question For Ya'll??
Do goats normally "Groom" their feet like a cat licking it's paws?
Both my boy's are well trimmed, they are simple compared with what I do with horses trimming wise.
They are NOT sore footed, and I can not see nor smell any thing like Thrush or hoof rot.
Hoof condition is very good.
It is more like a woman Buffing out finger nails. Smile
Are my boy's that Vane??
To Nanno:
Pete Likes Loaded Baked Potato wedges done on the grill.
Who says goats are picky eaters?
He wanted some steak too but I draw the line there. I am the only Carnivore in this camp. Smile

It's a known fact: With goats around, you cannot take a leak in the woods without an audience. Big Grin

It's nice that your goats are naturally "potty trained" not to let loose on the porch. Cuzco (and I'm pretty sure Sputnik) are like that too. Most of the others couldn't care less about going on the porch though. In fact, I had one doe would get so excited that she would go five or six times in the space of as many minutes. She's the one who inspired us to put gates across the stairs to our porch, much to Cuzco's dismay. He used to have the run of it when he was an "only goat." I think the porch gates are a large part of the deep-seated animosity he developed toward Phil and I ever since we got other goats. He's learned to mostly control his inner hostility, but I'm quite sure he'll hold a grudge to his dying day, and nothing will cure it short of selling every other goat we have on the place. Poor Cuzco. Oh well. A few of those grilled potato wedges would probably ease his suffering though!
