Target; Chestnut Ridge Preserve
It did not Start well;
My Lady Susan had to clean out the cab of her truck, in order to have seating for me and Max. Trail Dog
She left the doors open and we had to drag Pete and Sam out of the cab "TWICE" she was not "HAPPY" with them.
Even if her truck inside looks like a bag ladies shopping cart.
Loaded the Goat tote, with to much help from Pete and Sam.

Got on the road:
Arrived: Chestnut Ridge Preserve.
Only 2 other cars parked at trail head. OK good, not a lot of people/dogs on trail.
Let Pete and Sam out of goat tote to browse a bit while I got dressed for the trail,
Another Car comes in with a old guy and a guy my age to take a walk both have walking sticks.
They flipped out about me going walkabout with goats, Not in a bad way, just amazed goats could do that.
So they got my whole Pack Goat Story.
The goat boys in the mean time had gone over to get a scratch and pet no problem.
We hit the trail together, they were worried about the goats keeping up, claimed they were fast walkers.
HA, I lead at my normal pace , goat boy's did the normal goat thing "Stop and eat a little and catch up"
After a bit the goat boys fell into trail formation behind me and would just "Snatch" a leaf here and there. but keep in the middle of the group behind me.
We took a break, to chat and the Old guy took off in lead, the goat boys followed on with him. I got to be tail end Charlie and watch the goat boys from the back side.
We arrived at the first bridge and the goat boys stopped and would not go over till I went over ahead of them, then no problems they came trotting on just fine. They seam to be willing to work with other people but do keep track of were the herd boss is. I took lead and they trotted right over the second bridge.

When we got to were I normally cut off for the fire road to go back down to the trail head, I broke off from the other hikers and wished them a good hike.
I made a mistake, I should have gone down the fire road, Instead I decided to go back the way we came up.
No problem with the goat boys I gave them a hand full of goat pellets so they would not follow on with the other two guys ( YES, they know what Pocket in my Brush Jacket has Goat Treats in it) so they were happy to turn around and go back to Trail formation on me.

I will start this part out with a statement about me being "Stupid"
#1 I left my cell phone in the truck, both for communication and taking pictures.
#2 I left my pistol in the truck (air soft) non-leathal but as you can read in other threads a very good dog chaser.

Coming back to trail head I ended up having to fight off (2) 100 pound + Husky type dogs, Max my trail dog tried to help but he is not a aggressive dog, they chased him off, then went after the goat boys. I planted "Several" good kicks into both of their ribs, they would back off but then come back in at the goat boys.
The owner "Finally" Showed up from down trail.and got both of them on leash.
Then we stood there and had a good talk about "Trail Manners"
After both dogs were leashed both of the boys came up around me ,hackles up and for the first time I could hear them "Growling" like Nanno says Cuzco dose. But they herded up around me and faced off the dogs at about 6 feet.
If I would have had my 357 mag both dogs would have been dead.
Or if I had the air-soft pistol they would be headed for the next county with a full 20 round clip up their ass.
Outcome: No goats hurt, they(Goats) almost knocked ME down a couple times running from the dogs.
Goat boys coming to Herd Boss for protection, all I could do was kick the dogs in the ribs.
I have a sore foot now from that.
Things learned by me.
#1 Don't leave cell phone in truck !!!!!!
#2 Always when trailing with goats carry at least my Air-soft Pistol with a full mag and fresh CO2 in it.
#3 Consider Taking one of my lethal pistols with me.
The goat Boys are ok and finished out the walk about with no problems.

I've had a few dog problems before. It always seems to be the husky/malemute breeds. The little dogs too but they're no threat and they're generally stupid and would attack a grizzly.

I have a full on tazer for that kind of situation. If you want to go less than lethal and get close, they'll work. But some dogs have more fur than the prongs can handle. Soon you will be able to pack out the evidence LOL.

I like your idea, Tazer.
But like you said big dogs with lots of hair will defeat a tazer.
I have worked with LEO's and seen that they don't work on a person with a jacket on.
Besides that getting the new cartridges for one are $$$
The little YAP/ Ankle bitter types are hard to hit when you only have 2 rounds.

I like the performance I get out of my air-soft pistol 400 fps on a 20 gram plastic BB and 20 rounds in the magazine.
Plus I can carry it here  with my permits. Also a good shot with it.
As far as bodies go IF I have to use my 357 mag, I'll just kick them off the trail.
I will not waste my time packing them out.
Standing Law here is any predatory animal (dogs, etc) that attacks livestock (Goats included ) can be shot.

My advice:
You have open carry for a pistol there? Or can you get a Concealed Weapon Permit? (CWP)
I have CWP it dose not specify any type of pistol I can carry..
BTY: I shot my 50 round range test with a 44 Mag.
Target had nothing left in center of body mass. Then just for fun at 25 yards (Last 5 rounds of range test)
I Put all 5 into the head in a under 2" group. I was using my 44 Mag Ruger Redhawk Revolver.
But I will admit 25+ years of shooting competition pistols made the range test easy.

There are several good online Air-Soft providers. Look around
The type I have were about $75 and you just get CO2 and BB's for them at Wal-Mart cheep
You can even get them mailed to you, they are not considered a "Firearm"
Caution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Many are look alike copies of real pistols, IF you have a run in with a LEO do what he/she says.
Also first thing to say "I have a gun" Let the Leo take it. Do not move.
I do not know the carry/transport rules for your area RE: Pistols.
But I do know from my LEO experience it is always best to let them know there is a gun around.
My case when driving my pistol is in the glove box or center console.
I usually only carry on person when trailing or when I feel it could be a "Sticky Wicket" situation.

Hello All
News from here about the additions to the Truck Chashing Goats Herd.
Blizzard and Fuzzy are official part of BC1 Herd.
I got their Official Stainless Steel ID tags made today and hooked to their collar's.
All 4 now have "Bling" around their necks.

These are impact engraved Polished Stainless Steel Tags. They wear very good.
The engraving stays legible much better than if you use aluminum dog type  tags.
Also they flash with reflected light during the day or if you use a good flash light to check your goats at night.
So it is "Official" The BC1 Goat herd in now at four.

Hello All
The Truck Chasing Goats Story continues.
Just with a little different "Twist" on it.
The "Twist" being a 2 ton mooring line and a 3 inch load binder from my equipment hauling days.
YEP, I put the boy's out on a high tie today for the first time, all 4 at one time.
Been planning this training situation for a while, but the "BOY'S" went walkabout with out me this morning.
Had to go out and catch them, at the neighbors, I am sure it was the bucklings that were the ring leaders.
So they all got a surprize when we got back to BC1. They learned about being tied to a High Line.
As I described my high line set up above that I have had up to 4 saddle horses hooked to. I figured 4 goats if they had a fit it would hold them. Left them enough slack to lay down and browse around but not get to messing with each other. Tied by collars.
Sat in the shade with a cold beverage listening to Prepper Radio while watching the goat boy's
Darn Goat's did not provide any kind of entertainment.
It is a hard job training goats to tie up as preparation for a good camping trip.
I will admit Pete and Sam have been tied up before. Blizzard and Fuzzy I know have not been tied before.
So I had the advantage of two good roll models for the Brat Kids to look to. Well semi-good roll models.

Hello All
Had one of "Those Days here"
Had a tooth extracted, yesterday, packed off and woke up about 3 am with blood (mine) dribbling down the side of my face. Ok re packed the site, Med supplies are always close to hand here for stock, thought about using some blood stop. Decided not to have used it in external cuts myself, it is not nice.
Remember this is at 3 AM and I am only half awake at best.
Got the bleeding stopped, talk about "Cotton Mouth"

Ok got some more sleep.
Normal morning duties.
Turned goat boys loose and they hit the brush work.
Did some other outside work with the help of Pete and Sam.
Blizzard and Fuzzy "Disappeared" in to the brush.
OK "fine" they are eating brush. I finished my work and called them all in to rest in the shade 90+ here today and no wind, Only Pete and Sam show up. It was one of those "Oh Shit" moments.
Now I have to go hiking around in the brush to find the Brat Kids.
Put Pete and Sam on tie line, went on search and nothing.
Got back to BC1 and both are in the Red Neck Goat Shed munching down on hay. Dang Goats !!!!!!!!!!!!
So everybody got another tie line lesson while I sat listened to a good book and had a cold beer.

Hello All
I had to go get the Weed Eating Beast back today (Goat Union Term).
Plan was Drive it back to BC1 with Escort. (NON-GOAT) only a mile or so.

When I left we put all the boy's out a the high line, rather than in the Red Neck Goat shed. (Cooler and in the open)
With Shade and water. They did get to Browse from about 6 am till I put them up on the High Line.
They have spent all afternoon on the line. NO MAJOR PROBLEMS.
Good Test for camping I figure. Especially for the BRAT kids.
All Survived with no problems

Hello All
The Truck Chasing Goats turn the table on me today.
It is hot here 95 degrees + in the shade.
Went out early sat on the deck with a cold beverage and the goat boy's gathered around to listen to to Prepper Radio with me "Normal" Blizzard and Fuzzy crawl under the trailer for shade Pete and Sam like the dust wallows they have made.

So it was already to hot and no wind to do anything.
All the boy's were fed and had some browse already, seemed happy to lay around in the shade listen to the radio.
So I snuck off for a nap in the AC.
Could hear them under the trailer for quite a while.
Well 3 hour's later did a check "NO GOATS"
Went and got a can of feed out and rattled it "No Goats"
OK, they went walkabout, fairly sure were, the goat people across the street were Blizzard and Fuzzy came from.
So ok time for me to walkabout and catch them. (With a knee injury to boot) Just starting to feel better the knee.
YES: they were outside the fence Kabitzing.
Rattle the can of feed at them and they came running, then I had to hike them back to Base Camp.
At least they have learned to follow the grain can sound. Blizzard and Fuzzy got treats for follow on but also got some kicks and knee's  (Ouch for me) when they tried to block my path.
Everybody got grain when we got to camp then settled down for some book time.
I think they will be spending more time on the tie line.

So it was me Chasing Goats today instead of the other way around.

I Payed the bucklings back for going walkabout the other day.
Blacksmith was out today to trim horses for me and the neighbor with goats has a good Welch Pony (Jet) it is always a neighborhood Call for him. He likes that and cuts us a deal $$$ wise.
Neighbor are were Blizzard and Fuzzy came from and have been responsible I am sure of trying to go back "Home" and taking Pete and Sam with them, "They both" are getting Bucky ideas I think and the " The girls are just across the driveway, Good fence though. My brats can not get in.

Well, the deed was done today, in a little while no more goats with Ball Bearings,
I know I am on the upper edge for BANDING (Age wise) but the other alternative was surgical and I am not up for that. March Bucklings
Put everybody up on the High Line so I could keep a eye on the little boy's and they bleated a bit, were up and down a bit, but by dark here were more then ready to come in for hay and feed to the shed.
With two people that have banded goats and cattle here IT was the boy's DAY.
Fuzzy was being the first volunteer, He was poking around at the blacksmith (He has Boar Meat Goats too)
I was putting Pete and Sam on the tie line to keep them out of the way, (They were being Suck UP's)
Well by the time I got them tied up, Fuzzy was done. They grabbed the little squirt and banded him before I got Pete and Sam tied up and Pete and Sam are not Hard to catch and snap on the tie line.
Blizzard I got to help with the deed. No big deal for me I am used to Castrating horses.
Banding I like better.  Not for horses though!!!
Both the boys are doing fine.

Note: The young boy's must have known their day was coming, last night.
They put on a good 1/2 hour show of head butting,chasing, fussing with the big boy's and the big boys got tired of it and double teamed them both, pushed them around good. No upward movement in this herd.

Hello All
The Truck Chasing Boys and my juvenile delinquents (Blizzard and Fizzy) Got another high line lesson today.
Mainly because they had browsed or stomped everything down to dirt were I had the original high line.
So I moved the high line to a new area. Still under view but with plenty of weeds for them to munch on and shade.
Yes, I am turning them into controlled area brush goats as well as Pack Goats.
They did good in the new area on he high line.
Only had to untangle them a couple times
